Review #288: James Iha, Let It Come Down

May 12th, 2009

For some reason I thought about this the other day and then today KC suggested I do a review of it from memory alone. I thought it was a great idea because it would be really easy. So here goes.

I only heard part of one song on the album, whatever the single was. Something about silver strings or something. I remember reading an interview with Iha in Guitar World and him saying something about listening to some The Band albums. Based on all that I gotta say it wasn’t a very good album. And the cover is cheese.

Review # 287: Chaser Plus

May 11th, 2009

I always wanted to try these. My friend Josh tried them years ago but he was already drunk, and you’re supposed to take the pill with your first drink. After I bought these recently I tried them but then didn’t drink enough to get a hangover anyway. This weekend i think was a real test. Now I had more than one or two drinks when I took two pills, but I’m sure that was fine. I had more drinks and later took two more pills. The instructions say to take two every 4 to 6 drinks.
How did it work? Was I hungover? Yes and yes. I still had some hangover symptoms…nausea mostly, low energy. But I really feel that I would have been feeling much worse if I hadn’t taken the Chaser. Between that, a bong hit, and a few Mother’s Day pancakes from Jeremy, I was prepared to coast through a mind-numbingly slow work day.

Review #286: Obsessed (2009)

April 25th, 2009

I was excited to see Obsessed because it looked bad and trashy but I was worried it would be really bad when it was pointed out that it’s rated PG-13. Lame. I was pretty much right, this is a bad movie. I didn’t like any of the music selections, but that’s not surprising. The title sequence and the romantic scenes between Beyonce Knowles’ character Sharon and her husband Derek, used to show how strong they’re relationship is, went on a little too long. And usually set to the same yucky music. Ali Larder did a good crazy, but she’s proven that before, and Knowles does a pretty good bitch when dealing with Larder’s character.

Plot-wise, it’s pretty basic. Unlike it’s predecessor Fatal Attraction, the male lead in this movie didn’t actually sleep with the woman who works with him and begins stalking him and his family. He never even leads her on. It’s true, he’s totally innocent. So where does he go wrong? He doesn’t tell anyone that this crazy bitch is being crazy! He has no reason NOT to tell his wife and also get her crazy ass fired! So he does kind of get what he deserves to a lesser extent.

The most redeeming quality of this movie was the cat fight between Knowles and Larder at the end. It could have been a lot better. The camera was shaky and that always gets tiresome, but there was some good tusslin’ going on. I really wish I could compare it to Vivica Fox and Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, but…well, they’re not trained assassins, they’re just crazy bitches. Now I’m going to post the best part of the movie here because I will not be spoiling anything at all. It goes on for a few more minutes and ends with falling through the ceiling and the old chandelier-crash-on-the-crazy-bitch gag.

The best thing that I can hope will come from this movie is a series that may all go straight to DVD. I think by the time Obsessed 3 comes out, cat fight thrillers will be all the rage.

And to help the cause, here’s more chicks fighting:

Review #285: Mattress in a Box

April 16th, 2009

The king size mattress came in a box the size of, um…a big trunk. To see how in God’s name a king-sized mattress got into that box, watch this video. It has a twin or something, though.

It was awesome, quite mesmerizing. And the mattress itself is pretty nice. It’s a real-life mattress. A little firm at the moment, but it’s still brand-new. Maybe it’s just the size of the thing that gets me, but I really like it and I’m sleeping better. It was very affordable too. Less than $400 from Overstock.com.

Review # 284: Butterfinger Buzz

April 9th, 2009

When KC first told me about this I wasn’t sure if it was a drink or not. Honestly, I hoped it was. But alas it was still a candy bar and it tasted just like a Butterfinger. Shortly after eating it my stomach didn’t feel so hot but later in the day I was feeling pretty good. That could have been the caffeine from the candy, but I can’t confirm that. Odds are if you want a Butterfinger bar you’d like a boost of energy as well so I’d just say go for it.

Review #283: The new Scott Chandler

April 9th, 2009

All My Children introduced a new-faced Scott Chandler today, previously played by Mutant X alum Forbes March. Scott now comes in the form of Adam Mayfield and I’m happy to announce he is a hottie. It’s even conceivable that he was spawned from David Canary’s Scream-mask-shaped face. He’s better looking than most soap actors, so it doesn’t really matter how good of an actor he is.

Review #282: Wolverine leaked movie edit (2009)

April 2nd, 2009

When I saw the trailer for the new Wolverine movie I thought it might not be as bad as one would fear. And it wasn’t really. As like the other X-Men movies I enjoyed trying to figure out which character the actors were portraying. I hate to admit I had to look a few of them up in this movie. It’s hard to tell how good the effects were because it was an unfinished copy of the movie and a ton of digital effects hadn’t been applied yet. Ropes were showing, the background in car shots looked worse than a soap opera and some entire shots were made unfurnished digital models. It was fun to watch.
I feel that if they wanted to use Jackman as Wolverine again, they should have kept a tighter continuity. I think I might of missed some things, like how and when Logan loses his memory, but there are things, mostly who he knows, that don’t add up. Why doesn’t Sabertooth remember Wolvie? Prof X shows up at the end and rescues a bunch of young mutants, including Cyclops and Emma Frost. Where did Emma go later on? Maybe it’s asking too much to go back in time to fix the future for these kinds of things. I think I saw Banshee and Quicksilver in there too. The whole story seemed a little muddled but it was fun overall.

Review # 281: Things I got at Walgreens

March 19th, 2009

Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Crackers - Much like Better Cheddar crackers but in a long crescent shape like macaroni.

Hershey’s Thingamajig Candy Bar- Like a cousin of Whatchamacallit, it’s chocolate and rice crisps with a layer of peanut butter on top. It’s delicious but it’s a limited edition thing. Boo!

Walgreens brand Cupcakes- Like Hostess cupcakes but the icing is hard and the cake is dry.

Review #280

March 11th, 2009

Does Garrett kick much ass for fixing Phil’s blog. Yes. Yes he does.

Review # 279: Jeff Foxworthy Beef Jerky

January 29th, 2009

I’m not a huge jerky fan, it’s too tough for my taste. I like it when it’s all soft and moist, almost to the point where it’s no longer considered jerky. Nonetheless, I had to try Jeff Foxworthy’s Jerky because I figured the gimmick would justify it, especially if I reviewed it. It automatically gets a point for being less expensive than the other jerky at my store. Aside from that, it’s pretty good jerky. It’s not too dry but still gives my poor, wussy teeth a workout. It tastes pretty good and I enjoy chewing on it. I don’t think I’ll ever get it again since I don’t generally buy jerky.
